Happy New Year from Jenni Bowlin Studio!

Happy New Year Friends!  We hope 2014 will bring you many happy memories and blessings!

And now we have a couple sweet holiday greeting cards from Karine to share with you . . .

Hello!
I am pleased to be with you again today to show you two new Greetings cards! Christmas kits are definitely my favourite ones! I have so much fun with this month’s selection!
Once my pages are done, feel free to visit the gallery!

I used paper scraps (papers and embellishments) of all my kits to create two cards!
The first one is size 4x4 cms and is built upon white cardstock. I superimposed paper pieces and embellishments made with tracing paper. As I had already used the December calendar on a lay-out, I chose to use the November one instead. I hid the month name with the title "Tis the Season". As a finishing touch, I added some gold-coloured elements which is one of my favourite thing of the moment! To achieve a perfect card, I drew a double frame with a thin-tipped black pen.
The second card is built upon an October Afternoon paper piece. This little fawn is really cute with its red hat on, don’t you think?
I hope you’ll like my cards! I take the opportunity to wish you a Happy New Year!

A HAPPY Christmas

Hi everyone! Harumi here.
Today I am sharing with you a card and a layout I made using
the Christmas papers of JBS.

I repeated two pieces of paper which I cut in the form of the tree and stopped it with a stapler.
I made a layout with the same tree.

Happy creating!

Vintage Inspired Christmas Ornmant by Connie Mercer

Do you have a hour or so?
That is all you need to make these vintage inspired Christmas ornaments~

Supplies needed~
JBS mni deck, JBS chipboard Christmas buttons, JBS red/black rhinestones and the JBS spools, hot glue gun ( just goes faster this way), ink (for shading), homespun (for the spools), stick pins, holly leaf and twine.

Ink ( to shade) around the cards.
The card from the mini deck is glued onto the burlap.  I laid the card down and cut around, to get the size.

I then glued the Holly leaf ( just some I had) down followed by the chipboard button.  Roll some twine up and hot glue it under the chipboard button.

Added the stick pins and a Christmas sicker~
See I told you not much time was needed and so cute!!!!

Thanks for stopping by~

Happy Holidays... A Card for You!

One of my favorite things about the holiday season are the cards. I actually called my post office a few days ago because it seemed like my Christmas cards were being held hostage someplace and not making it to my house and I needed to start the rescue of them! I think the lady there thought I was nuts, but a Christmas miracle happened and the cards started arriving in droves just two days later. Yippee! Of course, mine are not yet sent out. But they will be tomorrow after I stop for some stamps. Yay!

This month's JBS Mercantile kit is ADORABLE and perfect for some last minute cards to those special peeps you want to send a handmade card. I like to use these as the cards to go with a gift. It helps because my wrapping skills are so bad and the cards make packages look pretty.

Happy Holidays... My card for you!

I love how the colors could work for more than just Christmas. I could have used it for Thanksgiving even! Ah, cards are so fun.

Happy holidays everyone! I hope your season is filled with happiness.

Fa Ha Ha

I appreciate the beauty in solemn, formal, and elegant holiday layouts, but those three adjectives are so far removed from the way that I have experienced Christmas through the years.  Zany, lively, and colorful: now these are the adjectives that say "Christmas" for me.

It's always been that way in my family, as this layout attests:
This month's JBS Mercantile kits speak to my love for the holidays. They contain so many fun bits and pieces that are right at home on a layout like this.
I tucked the journaling into a small vintage prescription envelope from the Antiquarian kit.

(Psst, Santa -- please bring me a bunch more for Christmas!)
In the journaling, I shared my thoughts about the photo, and then went on to explain how, around this time, the "good girl" (me) and her "mischievous brother" started an annual tradition of peeking at our presents weeks before Christmas.  My brother was a pro at unwrapping gifts without ripping the paper, but he was terrible at rewrapping. Every year my parents would change their hiding place, but in a small house like ours, there were only so many hiding places.

Now that I am all grown up (physically, at least) with my own family, I have used the super spy strategies that my brother taught me to assist me in hiding presents. I'm still terrible at wrapping gifts, but I have had lots of practice in unwrapping them.

Happy Holidays!

a holiday hotel key holder

I finally had a moment to update my hotel key holder this morning for the holidays! Yay! If you've been following along on my personal blog, I posted a mood board for my holiday projects this year, and I'm really happy with how everything has come together.

I love this hotel key holder - it hangs in our dining room and is easy to update for the seasons  with little bits and projects...

I loved the German foil pieces in the December mini album kit - they were such a great touch for the board!

Happy Holidays!

So Inspired : Crowns for Christmas

Our  release at JessicaSprague.com this weekend is a digital replay of Jenni's classic crown rub-ons.  They are available in the kit as both brushes (.abr format) and .png images.  I can't wait to show you what Nirupama Kumar did with the png images and her cutting machine.

Oh how adorable!

from Niru:
I used the trace feature in Silhouette to turn these crowns into cut files. I used one large one as a stencil for my chalkboard. I love the festive and unique touch it adds! I also cut out mini crowns, glittered them and created a banner for the top. My son was so excited about the crown shape that he wanted one for himself. He decorated it and and I glued it to a tissue paper crown.

What a beautiful banner these crowns make!

As a stencil for her chalkboard?!  I must try this!

 What a beautiful Christmas display!

Oh the ideas and inspiration Niru has made and put into my head!  No more store bought crowns for my neices' birthdays ... crown banners for New Years! ...  chalkboard inspiration for my Mercantile Chalkboard Easel ... crown ornaments for my tree ...

the list goes on and on!

Thank you Niru for a wonderful post and inspiration!

Big Digi Sale All Month!

Did you notice that over at JessicaSprague.com all digital kits are 30% off thru December 31st!  And to celebrate, I'd like to share some digital inspiration with you today!

This one, from Brynn Marie Dukes, uses so much of JBS digital product in Jenni's classic red, black, and cream color scheme.  It truly looks "real" doesn't it?!  I could use some pointers from Brynn on her shadowing and making a digital layout look real enough to touch!

Amanda Jones Robinson, who rocks our monthly kits, tried her hand at digital and created this striking layout.  Multi-talented gal for sure!

Audrey Tan took one of our recent releases (Watch Faces) to make this "timeless" digital layout.  Look how artsy Audrey got with stitching and ink.  Amazing!

I love the inspiration and talent our digital team has shared with us this year.  From digital layouts, to hybrid layouts, to 3-D projects, they have all made such wonderful projects for JBS Digital.  Stay tuned the rest of the month as I share some more team inspiration from the past year.

All of these JBS digital products can be found in our Digital Shoppe.

Keeping in the Holiday Spirit

Christmas is hectic. We're busy baking, decorating, shopping and spending time with friends and family...all of which means we sometimes miss out on scrapbooking. This week, I was so grateful for my December JBS Mercantile  kits. I used them to take a time out from the hectic holiday hustle and bustle.

I printed up a few older Christmas photos which feature my son. It was so easy to mix and match the coordinated kits this month. Since I didn't have to worry about choosing just the right products, I was able to spend my limited creative time just letting the story unfold.

The Mini Chalkboard Alpha Stickers in red came in handy to mix my journaling in with the main portion of the title. I saved some of the small dots from the Queen and Company borders in this month's Artisian kit. They made a lovely confetti like sprinkle among the stars in the title.

Being able to see the photos and create the layouts really brought my focus back. The photos, after all, represent the end result that comes from all of the rushing about and planning. Sometimes it helps to take a deep breath and remember just what this season is all about.

Taking a little time out with the December Kits has sure helped me keep in the holiday spirit. I invite you to do the same. Take some time for yourself to create a little something. If you do take a creative time out, we'd love to see the results in the JBS Mercantile gallery.

Oh Happy Christmas

I'm sure this is not news to you as JBS fans, but one of the things I admire most about the collections Jenni designs is that they're timeless. So even though this card is made with paper from what is called the "Christmas 2012" collection you would never know for looking at it right?

I've paired it with some newer products that aren't at all Christmas related and yet still look at home here such as the Silver Feather rubons, and the Happy Speech Bubble flatbacks. And that gold leaf? Well... I have to admit that just fell off our Christmas tree.. it's not a scrapping product at all! Just consider it upcycling - another thing Jenni is so good at ;-)

To satisfy the arty in me I've used some gesso through the exclusive star stencil that came in the June papercrafting kit to add some background detail. But the star stamp that came in the November kit would also work well with some embossing powder.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Holiday Helper Mini Album
{Made with the Historian Add-On}

This time of year, I need lists, lists, and more lists.  I need reminders, places to take notes, and check things off. And I need to keep all of these close to me at all times!

When I looked at the December Historian kit I could picture a mini album to help me with need for holiday organization. There are only a few of the Historian kits left, so if you want one, you'll have to grab it soon!

The patterned paper from Echo Park has pocket sized 3x4 inch cards printed on the A-side. Wouldn't these be perfect cut for a mini album?!  So I cut out the 3x4's, added titles and embellishments to the pages with room enough for my notes, checkoffs, and lists.  I've put a clear transparency cut to fit on the front and back of the mini to protect it.  It will be traveling a lot with me in my bag in the next days to come and needs to stay in tact!

The entire mini was made with the Historian Add-On except for the October Afternoon tag sticker sheet from the Mini Album Kit, and a few items from the main PCK.

Try using the Historian Kit to make your own mini album!

Thankful for Someone Special

We are very excited to announce that Christy Strickler is joining our Kit Club Design Team!  Here are a couple pages she's made with our November Kits and you can look forward to a peek at her work with the December Kits tonight at midnight in the Design Team Gallery!  Welcome Christy!

Documenting gratitude isn't just for the month of November. It can be a year round habit. The easiest way to practice is quite simple. Just look through your photos and watch for the moments, both big and little that really catch your heart.

As I looked through the photos of my family, I was quite taken by several little moments that I had captured in which my husband was interacting with our son. I am so very grateful that he spends so much time with our son. I love to see the joy apparent in their faces while they are at play. Each of these small moments bring me so much happiness.

The bold, bright colors and playful pattern were perfect for these photos of my husband swinging my son in a blanket.I layered the washi tape over small strips of white cardstock. This enabled me to punch the hearts out with a standard hole punch. The die cut originally said "Love of my Life". I used a white gel pen to trace over the letters and to add a letter "s" to the end of the word love.

These photos were taken in the Spring. My husband and son are playing on a Squirrel themed video game. Playing on the theme of the game, I was able to create a layout featuring tickets and a bingo card. They are indeed collecting tickets like a squirrel collects nuts. I am grateful for this day spent together as a family. I love the expression on my husband's face as he looks down at my son.

You can find gratitude all year long. It's simply a matter of taking a moment to find little things that fill your heart with joy. We'd love to see your gratitude layouts over in the JBS Mercantile gallery! Take a look through your photos, find a few pictures from a different season and see how you can stretch your Autumn themed supplies to document your gratitude.
