Gorgeous Autumn Chantalle Style ...

Chantalle McDaniel created a gorgeous paper autumn layout for us using our digital kit on sale today.

Designed by Lisa Dickinson, Autumn Crisp is half price through tonight -
that's only $1.49 through midnight PT.

You can also pick up the matching cardstock for only a buck!

Here's Chantalle's layout and how she did it!

A hybrid layout using the Autumn Crisp paper collection

The ‘Banner’ paper was printed onto textured cardstock and used as my base. I’ve printed the ‘Autumn Leaves’ and ‘Neutral leaves’ onto plain white card paper and fussy cut various leaves.

For the gold glitter leaf, I’ve used one of the cut leaves as a guide before hand cutting.

All my little elements were then arranged and machine stitched down into a banner.

A Love Affair with Wood Veneer

When wood veneer shapes first became available, I wanted them all. You can imagine how delighted I was to see JBS Mercantile kits featuring exclusive wood veneer shapes. This month's shape did not disappoint!

The wood veneer doilies are the perfect accent to any layout. I love how they have a small hole in the center which allowed me to tie a bit of twine. The stamped design is both warm and elegant. In this layout, the wood doily softens the heavier feel of the grey floral print. I used it as an anchor to "hold" my photos in place.

If you don't want to use the full doily, it is possible to cut the shape in half. When doing so, it's best to cut with the wood grain. Cutting against the grain may result in the shape breaking apart. Should your shape break apart, simple piece it carefully back together and adhere it to your layout. Liquid glue seems to work best.

I confess that I was tempted to hoard these wood veneer doilies along with my other wood veneer shapes. They are so unique which is precisely why I am glad I used them. They look so much better on the layouts than hidden away in my supplies.

DIY Chalkboard Art : November Crafted Kit

We still have a few of our November Crafted Kit (DIY Chalkboard Art) available for purchase.

This kit comes complete with everything you'll need to create your own piece of Chalkboard Art including a chalk set in gorgeous colors.  The great thing about this kit is that it can be erased and changed over and over to match the seasons, a celebration, or special message you want to exhibit in your home.

I haven't had my own kit too long and have already changed it up a few times!

Here's our house number and last name initial.

Here's a sentiment I wanted to display in our home ... a true scrapbooker's sentiment don't you think?

This chalkboard art will be hung through Christmas.

Here are some other ideas for your own chalkboard art:

Special Dinner Menu
Names of everyone in your family
More favorite quotes
To do lists
Chore charts
Song Verses

What a wonderful gift this would make also!

If you want to grab your own kit before they're sold out, get one here!

Digital Haven Inspiration

One of my favorite Jenni Bowlin Studio paper lines is Haven and having it available in digital form is ... well ... heaven!

I'd like to share two pieces of inspiration with you from our digital Creative Team:

Jenni Bowlin Studio: Haven Collection, Jeweled Butterflies
Ju Kneipp: Moments To Remember (flower, lace), Elegant (leaves)
Studio Flergs: Something Nice (frame)
Anna Aspnes: ArtPlay Palette 8 (overlay)

Audrey Tan took pieces of the patterned paper, borders, and journaling cards and layered them all beautifully to create a comfy layout.

JBS Haven Collection
JBS Butterfly rub on kit
JBS Transfer Flowers

Other: Just Jaime ‘Scary Stuff’ ink splatters; CD Muckosky ‘We believe in Daydreams’; Alison Pennington wooden token; Stampin' Up sequins. Fonts: Rough Typewriter, Mr Lackboughs

Chantalle McDaniel created an airy and artsy background for her layers of journaling cards, flatback, and rub-ons.  And take a look at that digital gold embossing using our Transferware Flowers kit?  How'd she do that?

Both artists used the butterfly images in the kit with other JBS digital butterfly images beautifully in their layouts.

If you'd like Haven in your digital stash, you can find it here!

Scrapper's Delight

Each month, I open my box from JBS Mercantile happily and hungrily, anticipating the delights to be found among the contents.  This layout features two of my favorite kit highlights: the exclusive items found in the papercrafting kits and the vintage treasures found in the antiquarian kits.
The background paper and the stamp are among this month's exclusives. Since the layout is about two sisters, my aunt and my mother, I stamped the image twice, but in doing so, varied the height to represent a big sister and a little sister.
The antiquarian kit is a struggle for me to use at times, not because it is difficult to do so, but because I want to hoard everything in it, squirreling it away while whispering, "My precioussss...." I've learned over time, however, that the items in the antiquarian kits are happiest when given homes on layouts. They make pages sing. Case in point: the frame above and the thread card and tickets below.
It can be a daunting task, to scrapbook older photos like the ones on this page. There is a fear of "getting it wrong," or apprehension about not finding the right supplies to work with, but the JBS Mercantile kits have never failed to give me the creative push needed to tell the story, and they always help me to do so meaningfully.

Simply Messy Scrapbooking

The November JBS Mercantile Kits are perfect for fall scrapbooking!  I was totally in love with the gold leaves from the Antiquarian Kit and wanted to use them right away.  I used the whole sheet on this page to make a shining statement.

Here is a quick peek at my colorful mess before I stitched on those gold leaves.  It was so simple!  I just painted a few swatches of bright fall colors with my watercolor palette and then added some ink splats with a Tim Holtz tumbled glass distress stain.

I love how it reminds me of fall leaves in all their glory with the golden sunlight filtering through.

I also love the little JBS Girl exclusive stamp that came in the main kit.  I wonder why Jenni took so long to think of this idea.  She was the perfect addition to this page.  I feel like she is me taking that walk in the woods.

To get this look, I stamped her with Stayzon permanent ink (so the watercolors wouldn't make the ink run), painted her with the same set of watercolors, then trimmed her out.  A Polaroid frame helped her have more presence on the page.  So cute!

Have you begun photographing and scrapbooking this fall?  We'd love to see!

Welcome Our November Designer, Gretchen Henninger

Gretchen lives in New York City with her husband and their cats.  Unable to sit still, when she is not scrapping, she is knitting.  On the weekends, Gretchen often escapes the City to go hiking.  Her love for the outdoors is balanced with her husband’s passion for music and the New York City jazz scene.
Gretchen is on the creative team for Get It Scrapped and has process videos available on YouTube  under her alias StampingRooster (YouTube.com/Stampingrooster).  She also provides regular updates on her paper crafting, knitting, hiking, and travel adventures on her blog (stampingrooster.blogspot.com).
My favorite layout created with this kit is "Today with You."  I love the combination of the white, aqua and gold, with a splash of coral.

I rarely work in my studio unaccompanied. This is a picture of Janice, who is regularly featured on my YouTube videos.

My favorite photo right now is a picture I took of my husband in Iceland. He is not the outdoors type, but goes hiking with me because he knows how much I love it.  We went hiking several times in Iceland, always in the cold and rain.  I was oblivious to the weather, excited as I was to be there and take everything in.  Then I turned around, and saw him, soaking wet and freezing, patiently waiting for me.  That's love.

November JBS Mercantile Reveal!

November has arrived!  There is a definite chill in the air here in the Southern U.S., but it's all warm and cozy at JBS Mercantile!  To start off, Betsy Sammarco has designed this fabulous chalkboard art display piece that's available as the November Crafted Kit.  You'll want to grab two.  One for all the trendy holiday parties you'll throw this winter and another for the hard to buy for hostess in your family.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and our November kits are just perfect for documenting it as Jill Sprott demonstrates here with her super yummy layout.

Our excluisves this month include a stitched stencil, wood veneer doilies, a November flatback, and the iconic Jenni Bowlin Girl in stamped form.

Now, if you're still stuck in the summer sunshine in spirit as I am, these kits do that just as well as Lisa Dickinson shows here.  Ahhhhhhhhhhhh summer!

Don't forget to swing by the Flea Market while you're shopping.  The holiday ephemera is starting to arrive!
